The book Sammy Keyes and the Runaway Elf takes place in san Martina and the main character Samantha sort of looses the winning dog for the canine calender float. Mrs. Landgovt the owner of the dog receives a letter to give the dognappers $50,000 or else they will kill her dog. Mrs. Landgovt gets an idea to blackmail Samantha so she can find her dog because shee thinks it was her fault that the dog got lost.

I love the crazy situations that Sammy gets herself into. But I also love all the supporting characters. They seem like real people. These mysteries always make me think about life without being preachy. I love that.

I was disappointed. Instead of my kid's teacher encouraging the students to read a classic mystery like Sherlock Holmes, she let them read this "age appropriate" book. My kids read books like this all the time. They are like comic books for them. I would expect the school to introduce the children to something a little more challenging. Having said that I can say that probably most kids will enjoy reading this book much more than I did. And if they enjoy it, and it helps them to read more, then

Sammy Keyes, gotta love that girl! I think this is the shortest book in the series. I've been reading these books out of order since I"m borrowing them from the library and picking up whatever ones they have at the time, so it's interesting going back and forward and I was quite surprised that in this one Sammy actually stood up to Heather throughout the story and Heather was scared and quite timid. So I guess I haven't read the book when it turns the other way. I don't want to give any spoilers

My favorite Sammy Keyes book so far. There's a greater depth -- more soul-searching, if you will -- in this adventure. More sadness, too. The mystery is perhaps not as mysterious, nor is it as much front and center, as in the other stories, but the result is a more well-rounded and captivating novel. And with its theme of forgiveness, it makes a perfect Christmas read.

Not an objectively bad book, I just struggled to stay engaged and get through it.However, there was a good storyline about forgiveness.

i think it was better then some of the others books in the series. i like how she meets a knew person and she sees another side of her mean next door neighbor and finds out more about her. and i just thought that was sweet. but it definitely wasn't one of the best books in that series.
