DNF @ 13%No rating.Not my thing. I don't care for the writing style at all. There is no stream of consciousness.. No seeing what's inside the charcters heads.The pace is WAAAAY too fast. with little details.Characters are flat.Too fantasticalTo me this reads like a childrens story. Everything told and not shown. this is a very good book. i read it awhile ago when i didn't have an account so i am trying to see if i remember it. it has a very strong female character, a great plot and ending, and as well as humor. i will probably reread and write a better review.
This book is one of my favorites and why I give Simon R Green a go at least until his ongoing series get plagued with repetition. But this was before all that. It's a near perfect Dark Fantasy, full of gallows humor, I'd say it would fit a near perfect "Dungeon Punk" mentality with the characters being snarky with each other and Green playing with old fantasy tropes. If I could pick only 10 books to read for the rest of my life, this would be one of them.I've worn out 4 paperback copies of "Blue Moon Rising", and have read it at least thirty times. A must read!
I read the first 200 or so pages of this while on a trip, then waited nearly 3 weeks to finish reading it. All told, I think I preferred the first 200 pages the most and therefore sped joyfully through those, though there were still some very good moments scattered throughout the rest of the book. Despite the threat of the Darkwood, for some reason, I had the most fun reading the short story of Rupert saving Julia from the dragon and their initial time back at the palace. Overall, this is a
