I preface this by saying that Conversation in the Cathedral is the first novel that I have read in Spanish. Initially an exercise to improve my language comprehension, this provided a glimpse into the dynamic between Ambrosio and Santiago, the pair in dialogue. While I have only skimmed the English translation, it appears that Ambrosios use of the more formal usted when addressing Santiago is lost.
