I let my daughter rate this one after finishing it. :) Good memories in the making, reading to my kiddos!One of the great American classics, depicting Laura and her familys move from Wisconsin to Kansas in 1868.Its a great snapshot of the time period as the family start to settle in the area.From building their own home to falling ill with malaria.
I recently read this to my young son, and he couldn't get enough. He's a kid who loves nothing more than to spend all day in the woods building forts, so perhaps it's not surprising that he took to this book. I am a fan of the Laura Ingall's Wilder books, and I am enjoying them even more as an adult, sharing them with my daughter. I enjoyed the little house on the Prairie TV show growing up. This is my first time reading them. I enjoy seeing through the eyes of settlers and what life was like for them. I had a very hard time with the attitudes of the day towards the Indians on the plains. I am not upset with the book. I think Laura honestly portrays the attitudes of the day and she lays out the racism for all to see.
